2012: 50. Archer's Goon

"The trouble started the day Howard came home from school to find the Goon sitting in the kitchen."

Archer's Goon, Diana Wynne Jones

Archer's Goon, on the other hand, is the kind of Jones I unabashedly love.  A complicated plot, an evil force that has to be overcome, a cool smart kid who has to problem solve and get to the bottom of a complicated plot.  It reminds me of A Tale of Time City, in a lot of ways, but with the addition of the Goon, who is a delight.  The Goon is sent to Howard's house by Archer, one of the seven sibling who run his town.  This in turns causes Howard to have to figure out why Archer is mad at his family, and how to stop him - which ends up with him taking on the whole seven sibling which in turn - well, I won't spoil it, but there is quite an ending.  Very fun fantasy, even if it is a little over stuffed on plot.
