“Why if it isn’t old Jimmy McGrath!”

The Secret of Chimneys, Agatha Christie

The Secret of Chimneys is a mystery in the adventure vein, and as you know, if you have been reading this blog, I don’t really find those to be as compelling as her best books - the cozy domestic murder.  That having been said, they are better than I remember, and quite enjoyable to this Christie fan.  The plot is pretty convoluted, involving a international conspiracy, the monarchy of Herzoslovakia, mysterious love letters, and that famous ancient ancestral home, Chimneys.  The bright young things who inhabit the story seem like something out of Wodehouse, and the plot ties up nicely with both a romance and the reappearance of a lost prince, as well as a famous diamond! How much fun is that??  Nothing too serious, but super entertaining (especially when I was reading it at 3 AM!).
