2007: 8. The Last Continent

“Discworld is a world, and a mirror of worlds.

This is not a book about Australia.  No, it’s about somewhere entirely different which just happens to be, here and there, a bit . . . australian.

Still . . . no worries, right?”

The Last Continent, Terry Pratchett

A not so great Pratchett, honestly. I have yet to read a Rincewind book that I really enjoyed, and while I do think that the wizards are occasionally amusing (I like the librarian/Orangutan), this one didn’t do much for me. Perhaps this is because I am neither Australian, or know that much about Australia – the whole book was basically one long pun about the Continent XXX, where people said G’Day Mate and the kangaroo roam. Frankly, I was bored – even the bit about the evolutionary god wasn’t enough to overcome the one long joke that did nothing for me.

Recommend for: People who are Pratchett completists; Australians
